The Alere Care life skills programme is fashioned around the Every Child Matters Green Paper which identifies the Five most important outcomes for children and young people which are said to be universal ambitions for every young person regardless of their circumstance or background.

At Alere Care it is important that the skills that are learnt are practiced and enhanced.

Initially staff support will be intensive in helping the young person to look after themselves, that is:

To gain basic every day living skills
Planning and cooking of their own meals
Budgeting to living on a limited income
Sorting out money problems
Encouraging outside interests.
Managing own living environment
Self care skills
Establish a good diet,
Health checks
Keeping specialist appointments, YOTS, Court Orders, counselling
Build confidence
Deal with Peers
Develop negotiation skills.
Deal with people in the community.

By the time they leave and move into independence it is an expectation that they are able to keep themselves healthy, solvent and sociable and able to find suitable training/employment.
